After crocheting baby booties for Haile (my yet-to-be-born daughter), I felt bad not crocheting anything for Hofri in a while. So I thought of making her a cute headband to go with her beautiful long hair.

Because I want to popularize the use of the pineapple stitch, I used it in this pattern as well.

The headband is crocheted row by row, where the yarn is cut off at the end of each row and new yarn is attached at the beginning of the row the way pineapple stitches are normally worked.

Crocheting pineapple stitches in rows results in having lots of loose ends. I used these loose ends as a lock for the headband.

I don't normally work with acrylic yarn but I gave it a try with this project. I love that it works up quickly than mercerized cotton (my crochet staple). Crocheting this headband only took less than 30 minutes.

This headband is so cute my niece Bella asked if she can have one too because blue and white are her school colors. This pattern is based on the one I made for her since I forgot to take notes while crocheting the first one.

This headband pattern can also be modified to become a cozy head wrap.

These measurements are based on a second headband I made for my niece Bella. It had 5 rows instead of 4 and the loose ends were braided.

Length of Headband: 16.5 inches (unstretched); 20 inches (stretched)

Width of Headband: 1.5 inches at widest part where pineapple stitches are, 1 inch where the sc's are

Braided Tail Ends: 8 inches and 7 inches

Gauge: 4 sc per inch, 5 pineapple stitch per 2 inches

• 1 skein Red Heart Acrylic Handknitting and Crochet Yarn (approx. 35 meters)
• 3/0 - 4/0 Tulip aluminum hook
• Scissors
• Tape measure

I used two skeins for the two headbands I made.

• One end will have two more strands of loose ends.
• The headband will tend to curl - blocking will solve that.
• The headband can be worked in a single color, although it looks more interesting when worked in stripes.

Leave a loose end of about 10 inches

Foundation Chain: Ch 85.

Row 1: 5 sc starting in the second ch from hook, 36 ps, 6 sc.

Break off and leave about 10 inches of loose end.

Row 2: Attach yarn in first sc of previous row.

Ch 1, 5 sc starting in the second ch from hook, 36 ps, 6 sc.

Break off and leave about 10 inches of loose end.

Row 3 - 5: Repeat Row 2.

You have two options in finishing the headband.

1. Fast and Easy

Tie the loose ends in a knot: one near the edge of the crocheted headband and another one at the end.

2. Prim and Proper

Braid the loose ends and tie a knot at the end. Warning: braiding takes twice as long as crocheting the headband for someone who is not adept at it (like me).
