Crocheted with Tarn (T-shirt Yarn)

The other night I suddenly felt like I want to try crocheting tarn (t-shirt yarn). So I looked for some of husband's worn out shirt and made some tarn. And the idea of making a headband just popped into my head since I really want to one ever since. It's a very simple headband, took me less than hour to make, if I would not include the time it took me to figure out what closure to use. ^^,

While photographing this headband, my baby woke up and wanted to wear it. Look at how unruly her hair is! She kept crying till I put it on!

What I Used

1/4-in thick tarn from a white shirt

1 white button (from my husband's worn-out uniform)

5 in garter

3/0-4/0 double-pointed aluminum crochet hook (I used the 3/0 side)

1 tapestry needle for weaving ends

1 sewing needle for sewing the button, garter and flower.

white sewing thread

yellow textile paint

paint brush

I hope this crude and shortened version of the pattern helps you visualize how to crochet the headband. ^^,

Project Instructions

HEADBAND:

Ch 120, equivalent to a length from behind my left ear to the back of my right ear.

Ch 1, sc in all 120 chs. Ch 1, turn.

3sc, ch 114, 3 sc on the other end. Ch 1, turn.

120 sc. Break off and weave in ends.

FLOWER:

I crochet the flower using this pattern. This flower is part of my experiment to combine various free crochet flower patterns on the net that I really loved. I used only white tarn for this so I colored the petals with yellow textile paint.

ASSEMBLY:

Sew the flower on the head band.

On one end sew the button and on the other end the garter.

The headband I made was just too flashy for my style, so I gave it to my younger sister. She loved it so much she wore it to school the next day. Her classmates liked her headband a lot. Not a very good photo, isn't it? But I love her smile. ^^,

She is adorable, my niece's daughter is 11 and I don't think she would wear a band like that in her hair. You are very creative and your items are so pretty.

Moira, what an adorable headband. I must make it for my granddaughter. She's very girly and will love it.

Yes, I used a paint brush to paint the flower. Thank you for your rating.

Another cute pattern! I really like your symbol diagrams. They are really helpful. How did you paint the flower with the yellow paint? With a paint brush? Rated up and useful.
