Free Crochet Pattern Diamond Mesh Scrunchies
82I always use scrunchies to tie my hair. But when I looked up free crochet scrunchies patterns, most of them are done by anchoring the stitches on the hair elastic. Since I crochet plarn exclusively, working stitches this way means breaking of stitches before I get bored with my scrunchies!
Finally, I realized that if I enclose the hair elastic in a round diamond mesh, that should do the trick for me. The diamond mesh will stretch together with the hair elastic - PERFECT! All my sisters and friends are getting one diamond mesh scrunchies this Christmas. I'm sure they'd be able to use it.
Why don't you make one for yourself and/or your loved ones?

Materials and Tools
Materials:
- yarn (I used 1-cm single-strand softened plarn from a large plastic bag)
- garter (I used 3/4-in black garter because we Asians have black hair, it won't be noticeable once worn)
- sewing thread same color as yarn.
Click here to learn the methods of making plarn and how to condition (spin or soften) it for crochet.
Tools
- crochet hook 2 sizes down from the suggested size for your yarn (I used #7 steel hook)
- tapestry needle
- sewing needle
Design Notes
Keep the tension tight/compact because the mesh will be under a lot of stress and stretch. You don't want it to break on you.
Abbreviations
- ch - chain
- sl st - slip stitch
- sk - skip
- sp - space
- dtr - double treble crochet

Cut a 6-in length of garter.

Stitch the sides and the center too.
STEP 3: Closing the Diamond Mesh
To join the the diamond mesh [ch 4, sl st in adjacent 8-ch sp on the foundation ring, ch 4, sl st in 8-ch sp of previous round] 3x.

I love your idea!
Thanks for the great post..nice
What a great idea....I use to crochet years ago, just the simple stitch, but it worked for what I wanted to do.
Maybe I'll get back into it this fall!!
My hair isn't long enough to wear one, but I have many friends who would love receiving something like this for Christmas. Thanks for posting the pattern! Don't know where I would find garters though. Haven't seen those in ages! Rated up and useful.
