Free Crochet WEAVED WAVE Bracelet Pattern

When an upcoming crochet magazine emailed me telling me they're interested in publishing my design, I was so thrilled and excited! Because they wanted bracelets that can be worn at night, I searched my brain for a possible design. Out of the blue, the picture of a gold bracelet made by a Filipino jeweler came to mind. I remembered seeing it during our city fiesta.

Immediately I set forth in charting its pattern. Due to all the excitement I felt, I forgot that a wavy pattern is so common in the crocheting world. I spent half the day charting the pattern and the other half testing and perfecting the pattern. The result of my pattern testing is the Blue Weaved Wave bracelet.

Satisfied with the Blue Weaved Wave bracelet, I went to the craft store to find supplies that could glam up the bracelet. Although the magazine asked me to use beads, I opted to use radiant yarn instead because I have a 1-year old baby at home who might eat the beads when I'm not looking.

That evening I worked on the glamorous version of the Weaved Wave bracelet. It's the Silver and Gold Weaved Wave bracelet. I used transparent plarn plied with radiant yarn. It turned out really well! So much prettier than what I had expected! I slept sound and proud that night for I was so sure that this pattern could get me published.

The following morning I eagerly took photos of the Silver and Gold Weaved Wave bracelet in the fresh morning light. Enthusiasm and excitement filled my every fiber as I clicked sent the email to the magazine.

I posted photos on my Facebook account too for my friends to see. My friends loved it and requested I make a black-plied-with-silver version of the bracelet. Of course, I eagerly crocheted it that night, photographed it the following morning, emailed it to the magazine and posted it on Facebook. More likes and comments from my family and friends! By the way, I called it Charcoal Weaved Wave Bracelet because while making it, I can't help feeling like I've smudged myself, like I was crocheting charcoal. It's actually more beautiful in person than in the photo.

I was so sure I'd get published! I can't wait for the magazine's reply that I checked my email every hour. But the hours turned into days, the days turned into weeks, and it's over a month now. No reply came.

I emailed the magazine again. Maybe my email just got lost.

The reply came a few weeks after I decided to publish the pattern here on Hubpages. The person I was in contact with got REALLY sick, so she wasn't able to reply her emails.

It still ended up in the magazine, although not as a paid pattern, but as a FREE pattern. Therefore, I am officially a PUBLISHED crochet designer!

Charcoal/ Gold and Silver Weaved Wave Bracelet

• Gauge: 6 dc per inch
• Length: 2.5 inch
• Circumference: 9.5 in as measured from outside the bracelet, 7 in if measured inside the bracelet

Blue Weaved Wave Bracelet

• Gauge: 9 dc per inch
• Length: 1.5 inch
• Circumference: 9.5 in as measured from outside the bracelet, 7 in if measured inside the bracelet

• ch - chain
• dc - double crochet
• sc - single crochet
• sk - skip
• st - stitch
• dctog - double crochet together
• y o - yarn over

Dctog literally means double crochet together. This stitch refers to a group of dc’s that drawn together at the top. The number of dc’s in a dctog stitch is indicated by the number preceding the word tog. For example, in this Weaved Wave Bracelet pattern, you’ll find dc 3tog and dc 2tog. The video floating at the right shows a dc 2tog.

This stitch is used to decrease dc’s and is very similar to a dc-cluster. The dc-cluster is worked on the same stitch or space while the dctog is worked on adjacent stitches or spaces.

The crochet instructions for a dc 3tog:

[Y o, insert hook in next st, draw a loop through, y o, draw through 2 loops] 3x, y o, draw through all 4 loops on hook.

The Foundation Chain of 48+2 is based on the Charcoal and Silver and Gold Weaved Wave Bracelet. The Blue Weaved Wave Bracelet has 72+2

Foundation Chain: Ch 48 (or any multiple of 24) + 2.

Row 1: Starting with the 4^th ch from hook, 1 dc, dc 3tog,6 dc, (3 dc in next ch)2x, 6 dc, dc 3tog, 2 dc, [2 dc, dc 3 tog, 6 dc, (3 dc in next ch)2x, 6 dc, dc 3tog, 2 dc] repeat to end. Ch 3, turn.

Row 2: Sk 1^st dc, dc 3tog, 6 dc, (3 dc in next st), 2 dc, (3 dc in next st), 6 dc, dc 3tog, 1 dc, [1 dc, dc 3tog, 6 dc, (3 dc in next st), 2 dc, (3 dc in next st), 6 dc, dc 3tog, 1 dc] repeat to end. Ch 2, turn.

Row 3: Sk 1^st dc, dc 2tog, 6 dc, (3 dc in next st), 4 dc, (3 dc in next st), 6 dc, dc 3tog, [dc 3tog, 6 dc, (3 dc in next st), 4 dc, (3 dc in next st), 6 dc, dc 3tog] repeat to end. Ch 1.

Join sides with 6 sc's to form a wavy ring. Weave in ends.

Make another wavy ring using a different color to highlight the weave. Before joining sides, weave the 2^nd ring to the 1^st ring.
