Perhaps 30-minutes will depend on how fast you can crochet. But on the average, I finished crocheting each pair for about 30 minutes, some 45 minutes.

Inspiration:

One day, while I was watching a talk show, I had an epiphany. The best dangling earrings have the shape of either a tear drop, circle or diamond. Ideas suddenly flooded my mind and I sketched over thirty motifs before that show was over.

As you know, I crochet mostly with plarn. But it just didn't work. I was very frustrated.

Then I remembered I had lots of sewing thread in my stash. I pulled out a black, white and gray and crocheted the first earring.

I fell in love and the rest is history.

MATERIALS:

Polyester Sewing Thread - 600m - Color 112
I used three strands of polyester sewing thread to crochet these earrings.
Amazon Price: $0.89
Sterling Silver Small (17.25mm) French Wire (Fish Hook or Shepherd Hook) Earring Hooks with 3mm Ball (20)
Then I attached it to a pair of silver fish hooks.
Amazon Price: $9.63
List Price: $18.99
5mm Open Jump Rings 20 Gauge Silver Plated (100)
I used these metal rings to connect the crocheted motif to the pendant for most of these earrings.
Amazon Price: $0.01
List Price: $6.75
Sterling Silver (.925) Cross Charm -20x12mm
I wish I have this pendant! It looks so fabulous! But I think my open-heart pendants are great, too. =)
Amazon Price: $4.89
List Price: $7.99
Elmers E1322 Glue-All White Glue, Repositionable, 4 oz
Lastly, I used Elmer's glue to harden and add weight to the crocheted motifs.
Amazon Price: $0.21
List Price: $2.77

DESIGN:

These earrings are characterized by its lacy patterns expressed through picots and alternating open and close spaces. I also played with texture by using puffs, shells and crab stitches.

All of them are dangling earrings because I love earrings that moves with me.

Since sewing thread is very lightweight, a pendant is needed to weigh it down. (I had a lot of cross pendants because there was a time when I considered selling crocheted rosaries.)

If you don't like to use pendants, apply a LOT of white glue to increase its weight. White glue is needed to harden the crocheted motifs.

My desire for these earrings is to bring attention to the face without overpowering it. These earrings will enhance a woman's beauty.

Aside from that, I want these earrings to be easy to wear so it can be worn with your casual or formal get-ups. My thought was something I can wear at home when I want to feel beautiful or wear when I'm out and I want to look my best.

TOOLS:

Clover Soft Touch Steel Crochet Hooks, No. 6/1.00mm
No. 6 steel hook is what I used to crochet these earrings.
Amazon Price: $2.99
List Price: $7.99
Clover Chibi with Darning Needles
With a tapestry needle I hid the ends.
Amazon Price: $2.19
List Price: $4.49
Long Needle Nose Pliers Jewelers Electrical Tool 6"
Using a long-nose pliers, I connected the fish hook, metal ring, and pendant
Amazon Price: $5.14
Assorted Artist Paint Brushes 15-PIECE Kit Set
With an up-and-down motion I applied glue to each crochet motif to make it stiff and add weight.
Amazon Price: $7.50
List Price: $14.99

OTHER USES:

These crochet patterns are not just for earrings. They can be used for:

  • crocheted necklace pendant
  • key chain
  • cell phone charm
  • bag charm

If you use thicker yarns, these could also be great as

  • coasters

And if you make a lot of them and join them together, these patterns would make great crocheted:

  • scarf

Skill Level: Easy and Beginner

Some of these patterns are suited for beginners.

Most of these patterns are EASY level for they require more than basic stitches.

ASSEMBLY:

  • The crochet motif is directly connected to the fish hook.
  • If there is a pendant, join it to the crochet motif via a metal ring.

FINISHING:

Finishing touches must be done to these earrings after its assembly to strengthen it. Otherwise, it will lose its shape once worn.

  1. Pour white glue in a cup.
  2. Submerge crochet motif in glue. Use a paintbrush to spread the glue evenly.
  3. Bring the motif to the side of the cup and remove excess glue as much as possible.
  4. Hang to dry.

Diamond Crochet Earrings

Diamonds are a girl's best friend, most especially with dangling earrings! But if you're low on the budget, these beautiful diamond-shaped earrings should make you just as lovely.

Diamond Earring #1

This is the simplest pattern of all. The main attraction for these earrings are the picots.

Diamond Earring #2

The highlight of this pattern are the puffs (not so visible in the photo, but there are puffs there) and the lace edging. The lace edging, in particular is not that common adding more romance to this design.

Diamond Earring #3

The main feature of this pattern is the use of long single crochet partnered with filet spaces and picots.

Diamond Earring #4

Thanks to the crab stitch for the corded-look of this earring's edges. The inner stitches features two (2) rounds of alternating shells as a soft contrast to the solid look of the edges.

Diamond Earring #5

The biggest motif among these group, the outer mesh provides a great backdrop for the solid diamond dc's in the center.

Circle Crochet Earrings

The easiest shape to wear must be the circle. In fact, any circular lacy patterns will make fabulous earrings! These are just my interpretations of earrings that brings out the beauty in every woman.

Circle Earring #1

Smallest and simplest of this group, the net-like center is balanced by a solid round of dc's finished by another round of picots.

Circle Earring #2

Shells sandwiched between open spaces and trimmed with a round of picots, this pattern is best worked in a single color (something I realized while photographing it).

Circle Earring #3

Filet beginning and end, contrasted with a solid mid-section composed of long sc's, this motif feels nautical yet feminine at the same time.

Circle Earring #4

If a golden flower's beauty could be caged, it would probably look like this.

Circle Earring #5

A solid center made even bolder with gigantic puffs, coupled with a bit of open spaces, and decorated with picots, this motif is the perfect finale for circular earrings.

Teardrop Crochet Earrings

A woman's tears are priceless. It certainly is! These earrings aim to capture essence of a woman's tears that makes her more beautiful. (Links will be active as soon as the pattern is written.)

Teardrop Earring #1

An airy center, dense middle, and finished with cute picots, this pair of earrings will make you a hit!

Teardrop Earring #2

Be mesmerized with this enchanting pair of earrings with a firm teardrop-shape made more classy by puffs that borders it.

Teardrop Earring #3

Ornate midriff sandwiched between thick rounds of dc's fashions this earring into a chic piece.

Teardrop Earring #4

This boldly shaped teardrop motif, made more interesting with a round of puffs, will add loveliness to any woman's look.

Teardrop Earring #5

The most well-shaped of them all, this earring owes its gracefulness to its open center and lace edgings.

Miscellaneous Earrings

These earrings are crocheted with 6 strands of embroidery thread instead of 3 strands sewing thread. I've only made one for the moment as I am waiting for inspiration to dawn on me, so I'll know what to do with the rest of embroidery thread I have on my stash.

Understated Elegance Earrings

A classy circular earring with a lacy center and a firm edge, this pair does not shout "Look at me! I'm so pretty!" Instead it whispers, "Look at the woman wearing me, isn't she lovely?"

FOR SALE?

I was thinking of selling these to my friends via Facebook and Ebay Philippines. How much should I charge for each pair of earring?

  • $3 to $5 - They're quick to make.
  • $5 to $7 - They're so lovely!
  • less than $3 - I can crochet that myself!
  • over $7 - They're unique and that's priceless!

Oh Moira, I'm so sorry to hear about the flood, but glad you and your family made it out alive! Stay safe, and know that we are keeping you in our prayers.

Thank you Patrice! The bad news is, I can't write the rest of the patterns yet because I got hit by flash flood. The PC I was using got soaked in mud and I just borrowed this one to check my accounts. Everything I have is not covered with silt. It's so sad. My husband cried when he saw our house after the flood. So many people died and I'm just thankful that everyone in my family is okay.

You are so creative, Moira! I was wondering where you get ideas for all of your projects. These earrings are super-cool, definitely worth more than $7. Good information, rated up and useful.
